Rep. Juan Vargas Secures $85 Million in Federal Funding for Calexico Port of Entry in House-Passed Appropriations Package
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 26, 2019) – Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) announced House passage of $85 million in federal funding he requested for the completion of the Calexico West Land Port of Entry (LPOE) Reconfiguration and Expansion Project. With this additional funding, Rep. Vargas has secured more than $900 million for port of entry infrastructure in his district since taking office.
“Throughout my congressional career, one of my top priorities has been funding our port of entry infrastructure projects,” said Rep. Juan Vargas. “When we invest in ports of entry, we are making long-term investments that will increase jobs, improve our national security, and stimulate our regional and national economies.”
Rep. Vargas played a key role in securing this funding by formally requesting the House Appropriations Committee include smart infrastructure investments in the Financial Services and General Government funding bill that passed the House on Tuesday, June 25, as part of H.R. 3351, a “minibus” package of fiscal year 2020 appropriations bills.
“I’m proud to have worked with my colleagues to secure this funding, and I will continue to advocate for federal funding that will meet the priorities and needs of California’s 51st Congressional District.”
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire U.S.-Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his fourth term in Congress. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee.
